Our pets hold a special place in our hearts. For many of us, they are bona fide family members, so it’s no surprise we want to take them along when we head off for a getaway.
Luckily, the plethora of pet-friendly hotels Sydney offers makes booking a room for yourself and your fluffy friend easy. With options from hotels to caravan parks, and bed and breakfasts, here are some of the best pet-friendly accommodation in Sydney you can enjoy with your four-legged companions.
If you’re looking for city-based dog-friendly hotels, Sydney has plenty to offer.
Located on the world’s largest timber-piled wharf overlooking Sydney’s dazzling harbour, this boutique Woolloomooloo hotel pairs modern style with historical grace. Boasting 100 luxuriously appointed rooms, a stay here includes doggy amenities and treats, so you don’t need to worry about a thing. Keep in mind that dogs must be kept on a lead in public areas of the hotel, and there’s a limit of two dogs per room.
The pet policy at the Kimpton Margot, in the heart of Sydney city, is simple: “If your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them in.” Plush pet beds; food and water bowls in each room; a concierge list of nearby pet-friendly restaurants, parks, groomers and pet boutiques; and courtesy doggy waste bags for your walk are all part of the package at this luxe art deco Sydney stay.
Dogs are well catered for at The Langham, nestled in a secluded spot in The Rocks. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city but close enough to be a part of the action when you’re ready, this tranquil boutique stay with Sydney Harbour views is bursting with sophistication. A ‘pampered pet staycation’ includes a dog amenity pack on arrival and a private dining pet menu for your pooch.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge makes for a spectacular backdrop for this ideally located urban stay. In Pier One’s stylish contemporary Water View rooms, canine pals are treated to a welcome amenity on arrival, premium food bowls and bedding, direct pier access from the room, an in-room dog minibar and in-room dining menu. Pups are also welcome at the hotel’s outdoor dining areas.
Just a 10min drive from Sydney’s CBD, you’ll find the leafy upmarket suburb of Double Bay. Dogs are welcome at this spot in a selection of pet-friendly cabins and sites, subject to availability.
With its quaint village atmosphere, Camden is the ideal place to go for a relaxing sojourn with your pooch, and that’s just where you’ll find the Poplar Tourist Park, beside the Nepean River and nestled between the Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands. Pets are always welcome when staying in your own van or tent at the holiday park (just be sure to let staff know when you book if you plan to bring a furry friend).
You’ll find plenty of apartment-style pet-friendly accommodation in Sydney and its surroundings.
With a variety of apartment-style rooms centrally in the burgeoning suburb of Penrith in Greater Western Sydney, Quest Penrith is the ideal spot for both short and longer stays with your dog. Looking for beachside dog-friendly hotels in Sydney’s most coveted holiday spots? Cronulla Beach is an iconic getaway area just a 40min drive from the city – and Quest Cronulla Beach welcomes your pooch for a heavenly coastal getaway. Bed & Breakfasts
If you prefer a homely bed and breakfast-style stay, try these dog-friendly picks.
Serenity abounds at this cosy one-bedroom cottage on the Hawkesbury River. Set on 25 acres, there’s plenty of room for your pooch to roam (safely, of course, within the fully fenced yard), and the Colo River is just a short drive away. Snuggle up with your dog by the firepit of an evening and experience true tranquillity.
Another favourite nestled at the base of the iconic Blue Mountains, this is the perfect spot for families or big group bookings. Your dog is welcome at this beautiful bushland hideaway, set on 30 acres, but you’ll need to bring their bedding and amenities (and, of course, clean up after them).
With nearby dog parks a stone’s throw away and plenty of pup-friendly local cafes and eateries, historic Balmain is a dog-lover’s dream destination. With a secure garden for your pup to enjoy (and an outdoor hot tub for your own enjoyment) and stunning views over Sydney Harbour, An Oasis In The City is cosy dog-friendly accommodation at its best.
Before you go
At all properties, you will need to confirm that you are travelling with a pet – don’t just make a booking and arrive with a dog in tow. Sometimes it’s not possible to make a pet-friendly booking online so you will need to call ahead to confirm.
There is often a weight/size limit on dogs with only small to medium dogs allowed. There will also be a limit on the number of dogs you can have in each room. Once again, make sure you confirm with the property before travelling.
A pet fee may be added on top of the standard room charge. Some properties also charge a pet deposit (which can be as much as $250) that will be refunded when you check out, provided no damage has occurred.
